John Cole RIP

The erstwhile BBC Political Editor John Cole died a few days ago. Just by chance this morning I found this old doodle done when the troops were massing for Operation Desert Storm, the 'first' Gulf War in 1990. George Bush Snr and John Major were the politicians involved this particular time and John Cole's broadcasts from Downing Street informed the nation. His Ulster brogue was a shock to the eardrums when it was first aired but it was great fun trying to make out what he was talking about! Better than Mockney Estuaryspeak or Gideon Osbornes's awful glottal stops.

St Mary of Wonky Spire

St Mary of Wonky Spire

Sketch (slightly wonky) of St Mary of Charity from my bedroom window. Meanwhile downstairs a team of builders is knocking seven bells out of the house. 14th January 2013.

People of Faversham, worry not. Last time I looked, the spire wasn't wonky.
